When Regret Comes Too Late
Tan Haoyue, a wealthy heiress in Hai City, is framed by Bai Qianqian, an orphan and her fiance's lifesaver, leading to public scandal and a ruined reputation. Unable to defend herself, Tan Haoyue only wishes her fiance Fu Heng would believe in her. However, due to Bai Qianqian's repeated schemes, Fu Heng becomes completely disillusioned with Tan Haoyue, slaps her across the face, and breaks off their engagement. When a devastated Tan Haoyue returns home, Bai Qianqian, who has been lying in wait, drugs her. Determined to eliminate any loose ends, Bai Qianqian drags Tan Haoyue into the bathroom and stages a suicide attempt by cutting her wrists. The pain wakes Tan Haoyue, who uses her last ounce of strength to call Fu Heng for help, but he dismisses it as another act and hangs up. Tan Haoyue loses consciousness, on the brink of death. Meanwhile, Fu Heng, feeling indebted to Bai Qianqian, decides to marry her instead. However, on their wedding day, the supposedly dead Tan Haoyue crashes the ceremony. She not only systematically exposes Bai Qianqian's malicious schemes but also clears her own name of all accusations, resulting in Bai Qianqian's imprisonment. When the truth finally comes to light and Fu Heng desperately seeks Tan Haoyue's forgiveness, he discovers that her suicide attempt was real. Although Tan Haoyue was saved, it was too late—she is now only being kept alive by medication, living out her final moments. The story ends with Fu Heng holding Tan Haoyue's lifeless body, condemned to a lifetime of regret.
