Told from the perspective of the male lead Jiang Cheng, The Dragon Guard Villa is set in the fictional Daqian Dynasty. The villain Cao Qin plots to usurp the throne, leaving the country in peril; the female emperor, deeply concerned for her nation, sends her men to find someone capable of matching Cao Qin. The protagonist appears as an ordinary person, allowing the audience to better relate to him with a more down-to-earth vibe. Cao Qin, the governor of the Eastern Factory, secretly colludes with Daqian’s generals, harboring rebellious intentions. Upon learning of this, the female emperor of Daqian orders her subordinates to go to Jinzhou in search of Jiang Cheng—the former master of the world’s top villa, who could rival Cao Qin three years prior. However, elite warriors from the Eastern Factory also learn of Jiang Cheng’s whereabouts and rush to Jinzhou to ambush him, only to be defeated by Jiang Cheng. Yet Jiang Cheng declares he has no desire to meddle in villa affairs anymore, wanting only to protect his wife Yun Yun in Jinzhou. When Jiang Cheng overhears Yun Yun’s younger sister and the young master of the Zhou family in Jinzhou plotting to harm Yun Yun at a banquet, he tries to expose them but is met with disdain by his mother-in-law, who even breaks off their engagement. He learns the banquet is hosted by Jinzhou’s defender in honor of Cao Qin—and it is Cao Qin who harbors malicious intentions toward Yun Yun. Enraged, Jiang Cheng decides to re-enter the fray. Yun Yun attends the banquet, only to be drugged by her sister Yun Xi and the Zhou young master. Jiang Cheng arrives just in time, knocks over the wine cup, and exposes their scheme. After Jiang Cheng leaves, powerful figures from the Eastern Factory appear, inciting a mob to stir trouble at the Yun household. Witnessing Yun Yun being threatened because of him, Jiang Cheng erupts in anger, breaks through the siege, and rescues her.
