Xie Yao was disfigured in a fire as a child, leading to severe anxiety about her appearance and a deeply insecure personality. To conceal the secret of the stand-in singing, Tony arranged a car accident to kill Xie Yao on her way to the finals, but she miraculously survived. Upon hearing about Xie Yao's accident, Xie's mother, Gu Wan Yu, couldn't withstand the shock, her condition worsened leading to a failed surgery. Before passing away, she bowed her head for the first time and asked the Wen family to take care of Xie Yao.
